Ahhhhh...Sic'em Bears!

Ahhhhh...Sic'em Bears!

Tonight, 9pm ET on ESPN, the Washington Huskies and the Baylor Bears will battle in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas! Heisman Trophy winner, Robert Griffin III, has one year of eligibility remaining, but it's quite possible the Alamo Bowl will be the final celebration of a brilliant collegiate career. Will this bowl be Baylor's first in nearly 20 years? My fingers are crossed that it will be a VICTORY for BAYLOR!!!

Toys for Tots Holiday Fashion Show - Hollywood!

The Toys for Tots Holiday Fashion Show at Tru Hollywood, presented by elite Fashion Academy, Los Angeles and Jane Owen Public Relations, was a huge success! As guests arrived to the event they were greeted by two handsome Marines. The Marines graciously took the new and unwrapped toys that each guest brought for entrance into the show. These toys will be delivered as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community - what a wonderful message of hope the Marines are able to give!

After arriving to Tru Hollywood and giving a toy the guests were ushered downstairs to enjoy cocktails, special music performance my Moi Navarro as seen on NBC's "The Sing Off" and a vibrant fashion show featuring clothing from the lines of Street Saint, Julia Clancy and VSL – worn by Fergie and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

I was honored to MC the event and fashion show, along with my co-host “Anoush LA”, benefiting Toys for Tots because I believe no child should ever have to experience a Christmas without a gift. Style LA TV was also on-site to film the event and in-between my MCing duties I was able to do a few stand-up clips for their show!

Overall the Toys for Tots Fashion show at Tru Hollywood was a hit and I can hardly wait until next year’s event so that once again Los Angeles can give back to the children of their community.

What is your favorite way to give back to your community during the holidays? Tell me on twitter @CortneyBailey

A Very Ghetto Christmas To You!

There I said it, not only did I wish ALL of you a very Merry Christmas but I stuck the word “ghetto” in there. Say what?!? How does the birth of Christ and ghetto go together? I asked the exact same question until I watched Miss Angela Wood’s YouTube video on the subject and I have to admit she and her little “mini-me” do a pretty darn good job explaining the meaning of traditional Christmas in a very non-traditional way! Watch below:

You may have seen Angela Wood’s gorgeous face on countless national commercials but this Country Music singer and songwriter will capture your heart through her lyrics “Something I Need” and will then have you hooting and hollering to her song “Sex in the Country.” She’s a little bit city, a whole lot of country with a dash of Ghetto. Check out Angela’s web-site at http://www.angelawoodmusic.com/ and buy her latest EP’s from the album “Knock on Wood” on iTunes.

Wonderfully WICKED!

If you have not seen the musical “WICKED” you are in for a marvelous treat! The show will captivate and dazzle you the entire time. Not only are the costumes and music ridiculously wonderful, the entire production, no matter your age, gender or music preferences, will entice you every second. Personally, I have seen the performance twice at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles and both times I was laughing until my tummy hurt while trying to take in every second of the show. No wonder Entertainment Weekly declared it “The Best Musical of the Decade.” WICKED is currently on tour in various cities and makes a great gift for this holiday season!

The official WICKED website states, “Winner of 35 major awards including the Grammy Award and three Tony Awards, WICKED is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good."

Segway All The Way!

Are you looking for a fun activity to do outdoors that does not involve huffing and puffing? I would recommend you take a Segway tour! This is a leisurely outing that can be done alone, with friends or family. I took the Segway LA tour in Santa Monica, California but many major cities offer this exciting excursion. After you arrive at the Segway tour location of your choice you should receive a training session which lasts about twenty minutes. Once you are comfortable on the Segway you are off on your two-hour journey. Segway LA allows you to stay with your tour guide or go out on your own to explore the boardwalks of Santa Monica and Venice Beach. I started out with the tour group and then ventured out on my own with my friend and we had a blast! If you are nervous about riding on a Segway please don’t be! Trust me, after the first five minutes on the two-wheeled vehicle you will feel like a pro. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes and clothing and if you are riding in the winter, like I did, make sure you wear a coat!

Yee-haw: Saddle Up So Cal

Yee-haw! I'm rounding up all Southern California cowboys and girls who want to enjoy a great weekend adventure. If you have almost all day to soak up the great outdoors plus a fun Mexican-food lunch with large margaritas then Sunset Ranch, near Beachwood Canyon, provides a fantastic horse-back-riding tour through the Hollywood Canyons. You and your group will be matched with a horse that fits your experience level. The staff will then help you saddle up on your horse and you will begin to mosey through the canyons, which features an amazing view of the famous Hollywood sign. After an hour-an-a-half ride your group will arrive in Burbank where you will hitch your horse to a post outside of a Mexican food restaurant. There you can relax and munch on lunch and sip on extra large margaritas. After a leisure lunch, make sure you take the peppermint your waiter gives you so your horse can have a treat for being so patient while you lunched, you will head back to the Sunset Ranch camp where you will be satisfied with a great day yet ready to take a hot shower to wash away all the dirt from the dusty canyons. All-in-all I had a memorable day and would highly recommend this activity for locals and tourists!

Who's Your Water Bottle?

To do my "green" environmentally part I do a few things, not a lot, but a few. One way I feel I can contribute, while also doing good for myself, is how I intake my water. By filling a Brita water filtration's pitcher I can assure that I always have clean drinking water ready at all times. Over the last couple of years a Sigg water bottle has come in handy for my on-the-go source. I fill my Sigg bottle up in the morning and am able to carry it with me all day, easily refilling it when needed. By not using so many plastic bottles and finding an alternate drinking source I am doing my small part for our beautiful Earth. Recently, I came across another water bottle source called WaterWeek. As you can view in the above photo, five reusable bottles can be bought as a unit. You then fill up each bottle, place them in their stand inside your refrigerator and instantly you have your bottles ready to go for the week. This allows you then to wait until the weekend to wash them for the following week. I think it is kind of brilliant!

Taylor's Famous Best Friends To Be Auctioned

Elizabeth Taylor may have been married eight times but it was her “best friends” that made the final cut. The late actress’ magnificent collection of diamonds and jewelry, fit for royalty, will be auctioned December 13 – 14 at Christie’s in New York. Taylor’s jewelry collection is slated as one of the richest in the world, valued at $30 million. “I never thought of my jewelry as trophies”, Taylor wrote in her memoir “My Love Affair With Jewelry”, “…When I die and they go off to auction I hope whoever buys them gives them a really good home.”

The above pieces of jewelry are just three of the several pieces that will be auctioned.

Freeze Frame

Carli Davidson, internationally recognized photographer, with a background in both commercial and documentary photography obviously has a passion for animals. Her galleries are filled with furry and fur-less friends caught in daily acts that we humans make not glance twice at. By freezing the moments in time with photography, Davidson is able to give her audience a gift which many are very vulnerable, some funny but all touching. Two-a-Days Triceps If You Please

Exercise 1:

Exercise 2:

Today's at-home exercise, can be accomplished by using fitness bands, will focus on the triceps. The bands that I use can be purchased on-line or at your local sporting store. My favorite brand is SPRI and they come in various colors that serve as the different levels of strength.

There are two different triceps exercises, that I will focus on today, that can be done by using the bands.

Exercise 1:

Stand, with your right foot, on one end of your band. Hold the other end of the band, right under the handle, with your left hand. Wrap the band behind your back. The foot left anchors you. Holding the band straight up in the air, position "A", bend your elbow behind your head, position "B". From position B return to A. Repeat this exercise for one minute then switch to the opposite side. If one minute is too much try 30 seconds on the right side then 30 seconds on the left side.

Exercise 2:

Stand on the band with both feet. Bend your knees slightly and lean forward as if you were going to ski down a mountain. Hold the band's handles in your hands and bend your elbow in an "L" shape so that it can act like a door henge. This is position "A". Straighten your arms backward so that your arms no longer are in the shape of an "L". This is position "B". From position B return to position A. Repeat these positions for one minute.

In no time you will begin to see shapely triceps develop!

B - M - W easy as 1 - 2 - 3

As times change so do many etiquette "rules". Can you wear white after Labor Day? Why not?!? I love my white jeans all year round, especially in Los Angeles. However, I do think there are many etiquette rules that need to be observed, in fact I own Emily Post's, larger than life, etiquette book - although I have to admit it is currently collecting dust.

One dinner etiquette rule that drives me nuts is when someone does not know which bread plate belongs to them. I have attended countless dinner parties where either my date or the random person sitting next to me steels my bread plate and my bread is left homeless, sitting in my hand, while I try and figure out where to place it. If your "Momma" forgot to teach you a few of the basics I would highly encourage you to learn! I know, I know many of you are thinking, "who cares!" Well, let me tell you I care and believe it or not so do many others. Many corporations now employ a professional etiquette professional to teach their employees so that the employ will not embarrass themselves OR the corporation.

So let's take baby steps. It really is very simple. The next time you find yourself setting a table or at a dinner and you forget where the basics are to be placed just think, "B - M - W", like the car: Bread - Meal - Water! Easy as 1 - 2 - 3! Your Bread plate sits to the left of the Meal plate while your Water sits to the right: Viola B - M - W!

Work Those Biceps

From time to time I will post easy, at home exercises that can be accomplished by using fitness bands. These bands can be purchased on-line or at your local sporting store. My favorite brand is SPRI and they come in various colors that serve as the different levels of strength.

Today's band exercise focuses on the biceps. Take the band's handles in your hands and then stand on the center of the band. If you would like to challenge yourself widen your stance to make the exercise more of a challenge. With you palms down by your side, facing outward, pull handles up to your shoulders and then back down to the starting position. See the photos above for a simple demonstration. Do the exercise for one minute.

In no time you will begin to see shapely biceps develop!

No This is Not a Fashion Statement!

Somehow while working out I have managed to hurt my arm. I can hardly raise my arm without being in horrible pain. So, off to my doctor I went. After two X-rays, lots of probing, three shots and an prescription for a pain killer my doctor informed me that her office was out of slings. "No problem", I said "I will just pick one up at CVS while getting my Rx filled." Well the problem was on me. Not only did CVS and Walgreens not carry them, none of the medical suppliers I called had them in stock so, I did what any resourceful gal would do and made my own make-shift sling out of a scarf. Later, at a local Starbucks today I have literally had three different people ask me in their own way if I was making a fashion statement or if this was the new trend! I thought that was absolutely hilarious!!!

Don't Turn Your Pup Into A "Hot Dog"!

You love your dog, right? Then there is no need to turn him into an unnecessary "hot dog"! Pets can overheat just like us humans. Its been said hundreds of times before but if your pup cannot go inside a store with you then leave him at home! Rolling your windows down is not an option either because your car's temperature can rise over 120 degrees easily. Also, if your pet spends a lot of time outside below are a few signs and precautions to look out for before a heatstroke takes place. Last, don't forget to love, love, love you best friend - they love you more than you will ever know!!!

Signs of Heatstroke
  • Panting
  • Staring
  • Anxious expression
  • Refusal to obey commands
  • Warm, dry skin
  • High fever
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Vomiting
  • Collapse
Precautions to take if your pet lives outdoors
  • Ensure adequate shelter from sun/midday heat
  • Outdoor kennels should be well-ventilated and in the shade
  • Provide plenty of fresh water in a bowl that cannot be tipped over
  • Avoid excessive exercise on hot days
  • Talk with your local veterinarian to determine if your long-haired Fido needs a summer haircut

Tumi-licious

During a recent trip I arrived at my hotel to unpack my Tumi suitcase only to discover that the zipper had basically unraveled. Yes, I know, how does a zipper unravel? I have no clue but that is exactly what it looked like. Not only was I upset that my extra expensive luggage was ruined but I was only staying at my current hotel one night before I moved on to the next location. For a moment I felt like a damsel in distress, ha! Should I ask the hotel for a large bag? Should I try and find an outlet store and buy a new suitcase? Or maybe I should see if there was a Tumi store in the city! Yes, that is exactly what I did. To my surprise buying an expensive piece of luggage paid off, literally. The sales person told me to bring in my luggage, they would ship if off for repair and give me a loaner! I went to the store and few moments after filling out a few forms I was off with a brand new loaner! Thanks to Tumi I was free to travel carefree. Thank you Tumi!!!

Rihanna LIVE & Loud

While in Vegas last weekend I attended Rihanna's "Loud Tour" concert. I was excited to have tickets, especially since they were up-close and personal floor seats, but I held no expectations for the Barbados beauty. Yes her radio hits are catchy but would she really be able to entertain live? The answer is yes! Rihanna sounded just like her album. She hit the high and low notes perfectly and she and her dancers shown. The audience was able so dance and sing along with most of her two hour show as her chart topping tunes were all played. Another great feature of the show was Rihanna joined her fans twice by looping around the floor seats giving all her fans a chance to see her no matter where they sat - as you can see from the photo above! Last, there was definitely a high level of sexuality preformed on stage therefore I personally would not recommend this tour for under aged fans - adults only!

Almost a Golden Goddess

For the Fourth-of-July weekend I thought I would treat myself to a little golden splurge, a spray tan! I was planning a trip to Los Vegas for the holiday weekend and after a quick glance in the mirror I realized I was paler than Snow White herself. So on the way to the airport I quickly popped into a tanning salon, received spray tanning instructions from the sales lady and began the process to becoming a "golden goddess". As pre-spray PH balance began, the sales lady promised me for five extra dollars I would be more golden brown than orange, I realized I forgot to apply the special cream to my fingers and toes so they would not show the signs of my fake tan. I hopped out of the machine applied the special cream as fast as I could and got back into the spray machine for my road to golden glory! After the application was finished I dressed and headed for the airport, excited that by the time I landed in Sin City I would be a few shades closer to looking as if I did not live in a cave. It was not until I was preparing for bed that I realized I completely forgot to apply the magical cream to the bottom of my feet! No scrubbing or soap would wash away this mistake. I guess the "cat is out of the bag" - I would be an almost "golden goddess" for the weekend ... just don't peek at the bottom of my feet!

Up, Up & Away!

Purple and pink lights, pretty girls in uniforms, dance music, pop-up TVs and white leather chairs - this all sounds like the make-up of a trendy club right? Well, kind of but the so-called "club" is in the sky! That's right Virgin America is my favorite way to fly. The fleets are clean, the staff has been friendly on every leg I've flown and if you forget your ipod or other source of entertainment fear not the touch-screen TVs offer a large range of music artists to choose from, the latest movies and On Demand TV, etc. If you are seated far from your friends or if you spot that attractive person a few rows back introduce yourself by setting up a chat session. Yoga Gone Wild!

I'm no yogi. In fact I have probably only practiced yoga about a dozen times but I would like to continue. Do I feel as if my mind is clear after? Not really. Does my body feel better? Absolutely! During my class last night the teacher gave her class various levels of poses encouraging beginners, that would be me, to ease into poses and for "Level 2" or "Level 3" students to try variations on the poses. Easy enough right? She proceeded to demonstrate a fancy headstand then thrust her body gracefully into the air landing into a plank position - wow she looked amazing! Well sure enough a few brave souls tried this move and somewhat managed to accomplish the move; except the guy next to me. His headstand never took and he went flying and then bouncing on top of a petite female who was positioned in front of him. She assured him she was fine but I don't know how she could be! So I have to ask, when do yoga poses become too extreme for the everyday gym goer? When I was a teenager learning gymnastics I always had a coach beside me guiding me as I learned my round-off, then flip-flop, then back flip. Why are advanced yoga poses not the same? Has yoga gone wild for the average yogi who thinks they are advanced?

Double or Nothing

I have to admit I was surprised to learn that Nick Lachey agreed to televise his upcoming wedding vows with Vanessa Minnillo on TLC. Did Lachey not learn a hard lesson after he and his ex-wife Jessica Simpson documented their "Newlyweds" life on MTV only to have their marriage fail? Maybe love does conquer all or is Lachey going back for another taste of bad medicine?

Lachey and Minnillo said in a joint statement, "We're lucky to have such passionate and loving fans, and we thought partnering with TLC on this special would be the best way to share the exciting journey we're on with all the people that support us and our relationship."

Good luck and best wishes to your new life together!

I recently took a trip to "Napa Valley" for a close friend's birthday celebration! Our group had a wonderful time touring the beautiful country side, eating at amazing restaurants and of course wine tasting. This is not my first trip to this Northern California destination however it was my first time to tour Jordan Vineyard and Winery, located in Healdsburg, CA. My family is a huge fan of Jordan so you can imagine my eagerness to take the tour. The experience at the estate was heavenly. The staff treated each guest as if they were entering their own personal home, in fact CEO John Jordan was on-site as well to personally say hello. The wine tastings presentation was carefully paired with a beautiful selection of cheeses and each guest was seated at an elegant dining table so that each could linger and savor the time. All - in -all I highly recommend to add Jordan Vineyard and Winery to your next excursion to Northern California but make sure you make your reservation in advance!

Get out!

There are many opportunities in Los Angeles to exercise outside. One of my personal favorite outside activities is hiking! Not only are your natural endorphins released and your muscles working hard to keep you fit but you are also enjoying the beauty of outdoors! Although there are several areas in which you can hike, and I encourage you to try them all, I recently discovered "Tree People" inside of the Coldwater Canyon Park and really enjoy it. The entire loop will take you about 40 minutes to hike if you are walking. Parking is easy. The Coldwater Canyon entrance offers free parking and the Fryman entrance always has plenty of parking but you do have to pay a small fee. Why not take an hour out of your day or weekend and take advantage of this great hike and views. Lastly, don't forget your sunscreen, shades and a hat!
