Happy 50th Birthday Barbie...Cougar Time?!?

It's 2009 and Barbie turns 50 - Happy Birthday Barbie!

If you want to ride down Barbie's memory lane, here's part of a timeline of her life:

· 1959 Mattel co-founder Ruth Handler introduces Barbie at New York City's Toy Fair. The doll is 11 1/2 inches tall and features a movable head, arms and legs. "Barbie #1" is known for her sly sideways glance and her black-and-white striped swimsuit. Fashions from Barbie's first year include the "Wedding Day Dress" and the Dixie-themed "Plantation Belle." In the first collection, blondes outnumber brunettes by two to one.

· 1960 Ken makes the scene, sporting a head of fuzzy hair. Two years later, his hair is replaced with blond or brown paint.

· 1964 Barbie's little sister Skipper is introduced. She is joined by Miss Barbie, the only doll in the collection whose eyes open and shut.

Pink's The New Grey?

Pink Dolphin Swimming In Lake Calcasieu, Louisiana

It’s a raft, it’s a Anna Nicole Smith’s lost bathing suit, no it’s a pink dolphin!

Erik Rue, a charter boat captain, saw the pink dolphin during an excursion and photographed it, saying, "I had never seen anything like it. It's the same color throughout the whole body and it looks like it just came out of a paint booth."

The pink dolphin is not in danger or dangerous to others. Its interesting color is the result of albinism, which is indicated by its red eyes as well as its pink skin.

Senior biologist with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, Regina Asmutis-Silvia, advises people who see the pink dolphin to "be careful, as with any dolphins, to respect it - observe from a distance, limit their time watching, don't chase or harass it."

I don't k know about you but I'm quite fond of the new pink! Maybe it's God's little way of putting a smile on our faces during this economic crunch!

19th Annual "Night of 100 Stars"

Once again “Night of 100 Stars” proved to be the hottest Oscar viewing party in town! Thanks to Norby Walters, the 19th annual party was a huge success. As celebrities strolled down the red carpet and cameras started to flash the heated energy, at The Beverly Hills Hotel, rose to new heights. Smiles sparked, dresses swooshed, and former attending Oscar winners and nominees, over 40 in count this year, curiously awaited to see who would be the next members of The Academy. While hosting LIVE I was able to snag some great interviews during the festivities. Here is a list of several of the celebs who stopped by the media wall to chat it up:

Do You Know Your Oscar Trivia?

It’s that time of year again when all the lights in Tinsel Town will be shining bright! Hollywood Boulevard has begun its block-off, Wolfgang Puck has planned his menu and last minute beads are being sown on to glamorous frocks. (Which reminds me my fitting is tomorrow…yikes!) The big question is who will take home the coveted statuettes, the “Academy Award of Merit”, during the 81st Academy Awards?

Once again I am hosting at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Party, “Night of 100 Stars.” More details to come!

Here is some Oscar Trivia to enjoy at your Academy Awards viewing party:

• Australian performer Hugh Jackman hosts this year’s ceremony for the first time.
• Bob Hope has hosted or co-hosted the Oscars 18 times, more than anyone else.
• The first awards were presented at a banquet dinner at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood with an audience of less than 250 people.
• Winners nor their heirs may sell the statuettes without first offering to sell them back to the Academy for $1. If a winner refuses to agree to this stipulation, then the Academy keeps the statuette.
• The youngest person to ever receive an Oscar was 5-year-old Shirley Temple in 1934; it was an honorary Oscar.
• The Curious Case of Benjamin Button leads this year’s nominations with a total of 13.
• During World War II, the Oscars were made out of plaster to conserve metal and todays are made of gold-plated britannium on a black metal base. It depicts a knight holding a crusader’s sword standing on a reel of film with five spokes.

Airborne Comes Clean

When symptoms of the common cold hit have you ever reached for Airborne – the herbal supplement that advertised it helps fight off colds? I have and I swear it works! Therefore I was surprised to learn that Airborne, created by a second-grade teacher, will pay $23.3 million to settle a class-action lawsuit brought against the company for false advertising.

According to CSPI senior nutritionist David Schardt, "There's no credible evidence that what's in Airborne can prevent colds or protect you from a germy environment." He went on to say, "Airborne is basically on overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that's been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed."

The defendants, Airborne, have “deni[ed] any wrongdoing or illegal conduct” however they “have agreed to settle the litigation,” says a recorded message at the toll-free number of the class-action settlement administrator.

Although Airborne may not fight off colds I think the product still cannot hurt... they are herbal supplements after all! I may not pay the high dollar for the little plastic tube filled with twelve chalky tablets but I will definitely make use of the extra remedy left over in my medicine cabinet. What do you think? Your Heart’s Meow!

Are you a cat or dog person? While a dog may be a “Man’s Best Friend” owning a domestic feline may have its benefits! According to a study presented at the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference owning a cat may lower one’s risk of dying from a heart attack.

Author Dr. Adnan Qureshi, executive director of the Minnesota Stroke Institute, says, “There isn’t enough evidence to recommend [owning a cat] as a standard practice. But the flip side is that unlike other medical interventions, which have a risk and a cost associated with it, this has minimal risk and isn’t as costly. There’s not much harm to it.”

So if you have been considering adopting a furry friend remember your heart my thank you now and again in the future for not only providing it companionship but also its longevity in this world!

REWIND!!!

Cortney Bailey Hosts the 18th Annual "Night of 100 Stars" in Diamonds by Linda Kim

I’m rewinding back to the “Night of 100 Stars” - Oscar Night – so that you can view the LIVE internet videos. So if you have two hours of your life (right who has two hours???) sit back and enjoy the LIVE footage! If you are limited to a few minutes (like most of us) just fast-forward and stop when you see a celeb that catches your eye!

A few things to know:

1. Clearly we are having a fun time…hey you have to when it’s LIVE!

2. Celeb interviews start around 38 minutes in. P.S. The longer you view the better the celebs get…however some of the non-celeb interviews are pretty darn entertaining…esp. the stocker interview!! It still cracks me up!

3. Bear with me on the first few minutes of the first video! We had microphone and camera issues!!! If you fast – forward to about the 20 minute mark the feed picks up a little more!

4. The second video features veteran entertainment reporter/ correspondent John Pattyson on the Red Carpet! I was thrilled to get to work with him! You will see me pop in and out of the video half way though because I was conducting other interviews at the time! Click below to watch:
